Amber Wening grew up dancing at United Dance with her mother Miss Vickie as her instructor. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While earning her degree at Mizzou, Amber also studied dance at Stephens College. Amber spent five years as an elementary school teacher in Lee’s Summit, six years teaching preschool at Rainbow School in Kansas City, and is currently a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District.
Growing up, Amber’s main focus was musical theatre, tap, and acrobatics. She performed in many shows in Kansas City and Columbia. Her credits include Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie, Mama Noah in Children of Eden, Maisie in The Boyfriend, and Mae in The Pajama Game.
Amber has been teaching dance and acrobatics classes for 23 years. She led her lyrical, tap, and musical theatre competition teams to numerous awards including “terrific tapping”, “precision”, “entertainment plus”, and “best choreography”. Her choreography has earned several 1st overall finishes in regional competitions, and two National Grand Championship Titles both in tap. Her large group routines in musical theatre and tap have made the “Parade of Champions” finals at Nationals each year for the past five years. Amber’s tap team most recently placed 1st overall in teen large groups at Nationals this past summer. She has had two routines selected for the professional show Kidz Roc in Branson, Missouri, a high honor of only 20 creative acts chosen out of 16,000 acts seen by Talent on Parade each year. She was also selected by Talent on Parade to be a Master teacher in tap. Amber is beyond ecstatic to jump in as one of the newest faculty members of The Pulse Performing Arts Center.
