Owner & Artistic Director, CPC Director
Curtis grew up in Kansas City and has always loved the performing arts.  He began dancing at a young age and soon found himself devoting all his free time to learning all he could about the craft. After experiencing the thrill of dance competitions and live stage performances, he knew this was what he wanted to do with his life!  After high school, Curtis continued his dance training at the University of Missouri Kansas City and the University of Las Vegas before moving to Los Angeles, where he auditioned for a spot as a year-long scholarship student at Tremaine Dance Center.  Curtis was one of only a few accepted into the program out of hundreds.   While on a scholarship, he trained with the best teachers and choreographers around, including Joe Tremaine, Doug Caldwell, Marguerite Derricks, Liz Imperio, Chebar Williams, Michael Rooney, and Wade Robson.  The experience was invaluable in shaping Curtis into the teacher he is today and helped him develop strong technique and style while learning an appreciation for the art of dance.  While living in Los Angeles, Curtis had the honor of assisting Joe Tremaine at master classes, as well as filming promotional technique videos for Tremaine Conventions.  Curtis performed throughout Southern California at many special events, including National Dance Day, Comedy Relief, NOHO Arts Festival, and Billboard Live, as well as numerous regional theatre productions.  After filming several episodes of the T.V. series Fame L.A., Curtis worked for Holland America Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean, performing in original cruise ship productions while traveling the globe. Curtis performed in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as well as Disney’s Celebrate the Season, their annual Holiday show, and was featured on ABC’s Christmas Day Special. In 2003, Curtis moved back to Kansas City and taught at local studios, and implemented and directed a competition program for those students with a higher interest in dance.  In the program’s second year, the dancers won top awards, including 1st Place Overall!  In 2006 Curtis opened The Pulse, and he has dedicated himself to developing quality programs for each and every student. A certified Pilates instructor, Curtis integrates those techniques into his classes to help students safely build strength and flexibility to prevent injury.  Curtis strives to motivate and inspire each student in his class, building their self-confidence and creating a love for dance.  Curtis has choreographed locally for Lee's Summit North High School, Shawnee Mission South High School, local theatres, special events, and for the Radio Disney street team here in KC! As the studio celebrates its 17th season Curtis is most proud of the studio culture at The Pulse; a studio where every student is appreciated, a studio with qualified, caring instructors that understand the importance of their position in a child’s life and the importance an arts education provides those students!
